It's almost that time of year when you start thinking about the impossibility of getting gifts for the people you love. Gifts! Ack. They freak me out. In fact, my end of the family have pretty much called a truce when it comes to purchasing or wrapping. We will have non of it. We had one crazy Christmas where we went all out and everybody cried and that was that. No more. But if I'm going to be on the receiving end of something, I'd prefer it to be pie or Lucky Charms. And if I'm going to give something, well, it better be handmade and it better be wood.
So here you have it! I've been getting so many requests for my cheeseboards recently that it's been driving me nutz with a Z. Not because tons of emails are annoying when they all ask the same question, but because answering a ton of emails with the same answer totally sucks -- when the answer is No. But I get it, we need something small. We can't all buy everybody we know a dining room table for christmas. I hear you!

HURRAY!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love that your designs look like landscapes.
ReplyDeleteOh wonderful! Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteI have a serious crush on every piece you show here. This would be WAY better than pie. Or lucky charms
ReplyDeleteYAY! Perfect timing for this....I've been pining ( ;) ) over your pieces since I happened across your work recently. ...especially since you're right in Brooklyn. Plus, I have a spot on our wall (somewhat recent move into a new apt in the city) which is in dire need of something amazing. ... do you have an open studio where curious people can come check out your work?
ReplyDeleteAnyway - love what you do. It's pretty incredible!
Would be honored to receive on of your pieces.
ReplyDeleteHappened upon your blog a little less than a year ago and really enjoyed your work. So much so that when my wife and I recently gutted and rebuilt our master bedroom in a 100yr old house I couldn't just trash the lathe. If you are ever passing through Iowa in need of some supplies they are all yours.
HOORAY! If I won, I think I'd just spend all day gazing at it lovingly. Thank you so much for doing this!
ReplyDeleteYes please forever and ever!
ReplyDeleteoh oui!
ReplyDeletewheeee!!! very generous of you, ariele!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness! i'd LOVE this little gem for my wall!! le sigh.
ReplyDeletelove all of your work!
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous. I'm dreaming of a larger apartment just so I can get one of your dining room tables, but while I'm still in my tiny one, a wall panel would be a great stand-in!
ReplyDeleteLove love love! and despite being one of the lucky ones who got a super awesome cheese board from you, I still wish I had bought a couple more. Oh well, live and learn.
ReplyDeleteYay! I've said it before but...Someday I'm commissioning you to make us a kitchen table :)
ReplyDeleteOooh what a fantastic giveaway! I'm sad there are no more cheeseboards, but these beautiful panels are a fair trade, I suppose. Loving your work, as always. You are an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteOh heck yes!! I have lusted after your work forever and would be ridiculously pumped to have a piece! (I know I should probably gift it for Christmas, but I just might have to gift it to myself! Ha ha!)
ReplyDeleteYaaaaaah I would hang that up so hard.
ReplyDeleteI adore it! I've been salivating over your headboards and tabletops for some time, and have really enjoyed seeing some of your wonderful inspiring process on instagram. If you ever come to Chicago, my neighborhood dumpsters and train tracks are lousy with lovely salvageable wood! Plus, us Ariels and Arieles need to stick together. I will for sure be stalking your blog so I can buy one of these beauties.
ReplyDeleteHooray! I'm such a huge fan of your work, you're amazingly talented and would so love to own a piece of yours!!
ReplyDeleteQuite a generous giveaway, and yes, easy as pie! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYAY! I was lucky enough to get a cheeseboard last year, this would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteyayayay this sounds so fun! :) Beautiful work as always!
ReplyDeleteoh my, this giveaway made my day! Just the thought of putting that up in my apartment...I've been collecting pieces of wood since I was a kid, only because they are just too beautiful not to keep...But this one is a real work of art!
ReplyDeleteI would love some handmade wood.
ReplyDeleteI'm a believer! :) I love your work so much. I am forever holding up my computer to show my husband something new you're made. And you seem so sweet too. Since we moved to San Francisco from the east coast I've had my eyes on il vecchio visit as well... Thanks for the giveaway, Ariele, and keep up the great work. :)

I confess to being a cheeseboard creeper! In addition, your square wood panels inspired my creation of a 16" x 16" square panel using red wine stained cork ends. I'd love to hang an Alasko original side-by-side with my homage piece. Keep Calm and Carry On, Lucky Charm... Yvonne Cornell YCPhoto@aol.com

Yes pleeaassee!! One day I will own something of yours. One day.
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty, I don't know if I wanna cut cheese on it. Kinda wanna hang it on the wall. But if I must I will make it the center piece of the party. I'll through a bunch of cheese parties and cut tons of cheese on it. Change my diet and eat cheese daily. That's how pretty I think it is.

ReplyDeleteI've never entered a giveaway before but I love your work so much I just had to give this one a try. And by the looks of it I'll be needing to check your shop every day to see when the other panels will be for sale! I have a feeling they'll go fast...
ReplyDeleteA giveaway! I can't typically afford your pieces, so I gotta make my entry good. Well, I'll start with this: you inspire me. I don't say that in passing either. When I was 9, 10, 11 years old, I started in woodworking. From then till about 15 I was in some form of drafting or woodshop working on things. I'm 27 now and just started back because I lost my "way," if you will. I came across your blog months ago and immediately fell in love with your work. Because of this, I decided to revisit my love of the trade and am currently enrolled in a woodworking class to further my knowledge and am working on a hope chest for my wife, a side table for my mother and a longboard. All of these are using 60-80 year old fir found in my wife's granddad's basement shop. I also plan on adding custom woodburned artwork on each project. I would love to have this wall panel to hang in my shop as a reminder to never lose my way again and never forget my passion; something my grandfather reminds me of with every thought of him. He handcarved all of his and his wife's childhood homes and she proudly displays them on a shelf above the dinner table. She lives alone and refuses to give up her stepladder as she still climbs up on the cupboard to get stuff from a higher cabinet. She's Moravian.
ReplyDeleteI would be so honored to own a piece of your work! Thanks for offering the panel!
ReplyDeleteyour work is so very gorgeous. i love that it is made with wood that has been tossed, abandoned or neglected...you breathe love and life back into it.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for the wall panels, love your work! Its my dream to own one of your headboards one day!
ReplyDeleteIt's your favicon in physical form! Beautiful as always, Ariele.

ReplyDeleteYours is one of the few blogs that hold my interest, and I think it's because the way you work is so nicely described - (yes, though, your things are beautiful!) your photos, your writing, the loveliness of your pieces all remind me that the possibility of making something from nothing is available to all.
ReplyDeletejudging by the number of times people have used variations of the word 'inspiring' in these comments, I know I'm not alone.
Thank you for taking time to document and inspire!
Wow, all of these people to compete with. Hopefully, I'm Lucky as charms and when I come to New York next week, I will find you and buy you a slice of pie....it's that easy!!

I've pretty much called a truce on christmas gifts, as my boyfriend and I live far away from everyone else up on the top of a mountain :) However, I would LOVE to win this little guy to give to my lovely man as a housewarming gift - in a weeks' time, we are moving into our little home on wheels that we built ourselves, and this would be the perfect addition.

ReplyDeletehello Ariele!!you can't image how thrilled i am abouta a giveaway from you!!!!!!!wooowww...I love your work, your patterns...but realy the best thing i like of your blog ( and of course of you!!) is how you share your love for what you do, how you can tansmit your feelings about the craft work you do!!!!i think that wood is one of the most vibrant matirial: you can smell it, feel it, touch it, here the sound of it while it cracks.....wood is compleet....with your work you add a forth dimension to it: you gave a mind, a hidden meaning to it....you make human and nature to combine in one object.....I'm dreaming to have one of your work here in my little appartment on the roof of Genova (Italy).....as exchange i'll be honored to have you here as my guest!!!!

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful givaway!
ReplyDeleteI discovered your work the other day when a picture of your lovely apartment showed up on my Pinterest feed. When I read the article I realized that it turns out we went to school together. I graduated Pratt '09 too. The world is a tiny place.
I then proceeded to completely creepily read your blog and went back and read your chronicles of restaurant-building like a total stalker. I'm in the very early stages of planning a restaurant and site design of my own, so I've got to tell you it left me feeling *completely inspired*.
Anyway, all of that to say, thank you for sharing your work and your process so openly! It's amazing the people you can reach when you genuinely share what you're doing.
All the best to you!
Hi Ariele. I'd like to take a chance at winning. This might very well be my only chance at ever owning one of your wonderful pieces of art.
ReplyDelete:)
OMG. <3 <3 <3
ReplyDeleteOh, man. I love it!
ReplyDeleteSmall panel pieces would work very well as gifts as I tend to either make my own gifts for others (handpainted signs) or buy handmade goods from individuals (like you!).
Love it!
ReplyDeleteI found your blog via your comment on another blog about strawberry cake/cupcakes. I've been intrigued ever since. Your creations are just beautiful.
